History of the club

The history of Rotaract club of Irkutsk-Baikal goes back to1998 when the idea of its creation was brought about by Vladimir Donskoy, the Governor representative of the District 5010.

The creators of the club were Anton Batalin, Asya Suharevskaya and other brave pioneers who decided to become a part of the new-born club. All the documents were ready by August 26th. Vladimir Donskoy who held functions of the curator took all the documents to America in his briefcase. This is the beginning, ladies and gentlemen!

Our first meetings started in September, and Anton was the first president of the club. He had a very important role to play - it was time to create the basis, to determine the trend of farther club development, to found traditions, to introduce attributes and rules, to approve the system of membership dues payment, make new laws, etc. These complicated processes are still under development and improvement since it takes years to form a club, the congregation of people with common interest. The club certainly had friends and assistants and grew stronger.

Young people started to lean toward us- we called them "guests", but soon many of them joined our activities and expressed their desire to become Rotaract members. In February 1999, the first new members were accepted to our "family". So the club extended, and our power grew.

The Charter that proves the official registration of Rotaract-club was granted in March. It was one of the most important events for us. The Charter and many other attributes were handed by Nesinov V.I., the president of Rotary club 1998-1999, and some other honorable Rotarians who became our advisors and sponsors. Each of us has received a personal pin. Then we just had a lot of fun. Two most important persons - Rotary president and Rotaract president - had a great soccer match. Despite the fact that the ball was a tennis ball and it was kicked by teaspoons, the fancy was roaring like at the Russian-Ukrainian soccer game.

Anyways, we know how to have fun, but we also know how to do serious things. So, what are those serious things we do? Please, take a look at "Our projects" page.
